Tell Austin's lawmakers: Clean up our waters with nature-based infrastructure

Dear Mayor Steve Adler and City Council members,

Getting out on the water is a big part of what makes life in Austin so great, especially in the summer. But nearly half of our creeks, including Shoal and Bouldin, have unsafe levels of fecal bacteria while algae blooms in our lakes have sickened and killed dogs. As we pave over more of the city to make way for new development, we're making it easier for pollution to get into the water.

Nature-based infrastructure, including rain gardens and green roofs, allows rainwater to soak into the ground, slowing it down and filtering out pollution. I urge you to require nature-based infrastructure on new and redeveloped commercial properties.

Sincerely,
